We are currently partnering with Evidence, a charity organization involved with various projects in Vanuatu including providing assistance to a couple of slum villages and the on going development of two schools. These schools provide a wonderful opportunity for impoverished children to gain a much needed education. Some thing that they may other wise go without. …………….
About Evidence
Since its establishment in 2004, Evidence has partnered with various businesses and not-for-profit organisations to establish better educational facilities and business opportunities for under privileged children and families in Vanuatu. This has included various projects throughout the Seaside Village, which is a slum village housing around 2000 people close to the capital Port Vila. Evidence initial endeavour was the upgrading of the village shower and toilet block.
Evidence then undertook over a period of years, the construction of 7 classrooms with associated facilities at the Survival School at another poor area at Freshwater, Port Vila. This school is now operating admirably. As well as having around 250 children attending, Evidence also runs a sponsorship program and has approximately 40 children who are being sponsored by individuals from Australia to attend the school.
In September 2008 Evidence began work at the Seaside Community School where they have currently built 5 classrooms, a care takers house, office, amenities and most recently a modern kindergarten.
Evidence will run further projects in Vanuatu in 2010 including the commencement of a Youth Development Centre. The first stages will begin in 2010 and comprise of a manual arts centre and an agricultural garden. This project will enable uneducated and unemployed youth the opportunity to gain various skills that perhaps will lead to employment and ultimately self sustainability.
